If you look back at all the times when you achieved a goal, felt fulfilled in life with direction, what was the very first thing you did?
I know for myself, friends, colleagues and clients the first step we all took was we all got crystal clear on what we wanted …..what we were aiming for.
Looking back on big decisions and milestones I’ve achieved …. such as moving to Australia from UK, becoming a permanent resident in Australia, running a marathon, overcoming MS to name a few, this was exactly what I did.
- Be clear on what you want
- Set a clear intention to achieve it
- Believe 100% that it is possible (even if you don’t know how yet)
- Everyday mentally rehearse yourself reaching the outcome
- Feel the emotions of how you will feel when you’ve reached your outcome
- Everyday, become that person who’s already achieved that outcome and take aligned action to move you closer to achieving it
- Repeat these steps until you achieve it
That’s great I hear you say … but what if I don’t know what I want?
Great question, because I’ll be honest there have been times in my life when I wasn’t crystal clear where I was heading. As a result, I just seemed to drift through life, being influenced by the environment and people around me. Can you relate to this, or know someone who is like this? So what do you do?
You’ve probably heard me say a number of times …. ‘What you focus on expands’, so if you keep telling yourself you’re not clear on where you’re going, then your life is going to reflect that back to you as you feel more confused and lacking in direction. Now the ‘what you focus on’ statement is a reminder for myself, as well as it is for you. 🙂
So if you’re clear on what you don’t want, then start there. Grab a sheet of paper, draw a line down the middle. On the left hand side make a list of everything you don’t want in your life. Then in the right hand column write the opposite of what you wrote in the lefthand column. This will help you explore what you want instead. Do any of the items you wrote down really excite you?
Always tap into the emotions of how you want to feel when you’ve achieved the items on the right hand side. It might be happy, grateful, relieved, joy …. whatever it is for you.
Then every day find ways in your life to feel these emotions. E.g. What can you be grateful for in your life right now? Just start there. There’s no need to overcomplicate it. Then follow the steps above to bring your intention/goal into life. I believe in you. 🙂
And remember
Wish It … Dream It … Do It!
